The Department is a young and vibrant Department established in 2004. It now seeks applicants with research expertise that informs theory and practice in teaching modern languages (including French, German, Korean or Spanish) for a Professorship / Associate Professorship in second/third language acquisition. Applicants with a research agenda that complements the existing research strengths of the Department in the areas of linguistics are especially desirable.

Applicants should have (i) a PhD degree in a related discipline; (ii) strong commitment to research and teaching; and (iii) extensive experience with programme administration and strong leadership qualities.

Duties include (a) teaching undergraduate and postgraduate linguistics courses; (b) supervising projects and theses of undergraduate, MA, MPhil and PhD students; (c) developing research projects on the acquisition of modern languages by Hong Kong learners, and research in his/her areas of expertise; and (d) undertaking administrative duties. The appointee will bridge the Linguistics and Modern Languages units of the Department, and be extensively involved in the administration of the Modern Languages unit.

Appointment will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially commencing August 2014, which, subject to mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointment or substantiation later.

Monthly Salary and Fringe Benefits

Salary will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package, including medical care, plus a contract-end gratuity for an appointment of two years or longer and housing benefits for eligible appointees.
